We end up changing medication regularly trying to find something that will work, then, when our health insurance changes we get slapped with high deductibles and premiums because we have tried so many different medications that are used for other diseases that didn’t even work. We are now branded with all sorts of diseases, even if the “only” disease we suffer from is migraines.

Unfortunately, migraines affect over a billion people worldwide annually and there is not enough research on the disease to find a cure. It is one of the leading causes of disability in the United States and affects women more than men. Many people are not even diagnosed with migraines that have them. It is time we took a stand and worked on ourselves to determine the root cause! My Master Your Migraine Program was developed by me based on my experiences with the disease and lack of support or compassion from the medical industry. I do not like taking medications, so I developed a protocol that works for me to decrease the intensity, frequency and duration of my migraines from over 24 days a month to less than 6 now!

Master Your Migraine Overview

The Master Your Migraine Program is presented by Balanced Life Association. This program is a 6 month-long program that provides the framework for living an extraordinary, balanced life in spite of your migraines. We will explore your triggers and symptoms experienced during your migraine and classify the type of migraine. Treatment options will be reviewed to better treat your symptoms, providing improved relief during a migraine attack. 

Balanced Life Blueprint

In this program, we will look at the dimensions of wellness and how they affect your life. If you do not have clarity on what you want, why you want it, and how you are going to achieve it in all eight dimensions, you cannot live a balanced life. You may be able to succeed in a few areas of your life, but you will always feel like something is missing. That there is more to life than this.

By gaining clarity on the dimensions of wellness, you will build a strong foundation that will establish the framework for living an extraordinary, balanced life. This, by far, is the most pivotal part of the program.

Life with Migraines

The next step in My Master Your Migraine Program will be to review your triggers and determine whether or not your migraine is starting out as migraine or another type of headache. You see, in my research, I have found that some of my migraines start off as regular headaches. I treat the headache like I would my migraine, and it persists. Then it morphs into a full-fledged migraine attack.

Knowing what triggered the migraine can make treatment protocols more effective and decrease the intensity and duration of the migraine, or headache should that be the case. I am not saying that you do not have migraines. I am just saying that I have 7 different types of headaches, and if I treat them appropriately I do not have the 10/10 pain that used to send me to the emergency room and outpatient clinic for IV cocktails.

Classifying Your Headache

Yes, I know! Calling a migraine a headache is totally insulting. Headaches are welcome because they can be treated. Migraines, in my experience, cannot be treated effectively.

There are many different types of migraines and we will review each type in the Master Your Migraine Program to determine what type of migraine you MAY be having and the different treatments that work for them. Not all migraines are the same!

Migraine Treatment Options

Prescription and Over-the-Counter Medication

Prescription medication has its place in treating migraines. Although prescription medication did not work for me, I believe it provides the relief needed for some people suffering from migraines. I will review the different classes of prescription migraine medication and why it is prescribed.

Medication Overuse Headaches

I would never suggest stopping your medication outright. BUT, I strongly suggest you talk to your doctor about medication overuse headaches to make sure that the medication you have been taking for years, both prescribed and over the counter, is not a cause of your pain. In no way am I blaming YOU for the migraines!! You are taking what has been prescribed. Unfortunately, sometimes the side effects and accumulation of the medication can be the cause of your pain, and without diligent review, it could be a cause of your suffering.

Alternative Treatment Methods

There are over 130 alternative methods to treat migraines. In my Master Your Migraine Program, we will delve into the different aspects of treating your migraines that have nothing to do with medication. Different triggers will require different approaches to treatment, so determining your triggers is pivotal in knowing which approach will work for you.

I have spent the last 4 years researching alternative approaches to treating migraines, and have created a systematic approach to treating my migraines based on the type of migraine I am having and what my triggers were. It takes a lot of trial and error to determine what works the best for each type of headache.

I use 9 different approaches to decreasing the intensity and duration of my migraine “pain spike”. This may sound like a lot, but honestly, it is such a quick routine for me now, that I don’t even have to think about it.
